New printer, and Canon Pixus MP600 vs 475PD speed comparison video

I have finally got a new printer today! The new and shiny Canon Pixus MP600. The box which can print on paper (with automatic duplex), print directly on CD/DVD disks, scan A4 pages in color or b/w, copy, print over Bluetooth connection or from memory cards (CF, SD and hm.. some others :), and be used as a card reader.

Read on to find out more about the printer and more interestingly, video speed comparison of MP600 and 475PD

Canon Pixus MP600

Why Canon MP600? First of all, that'll be the answer to "why Canon". I think Canon's ink-jet printers are the best deal on the market today. They are relatively cheap, they have lots of useful features, good balanced design, and most importantly, ink cost is lower the competition (though, of course not as cheap as I'd like it to be), and even more important thing is that print head doesn't get stuck when you don't use the printer for some prolonged time, as it happens with Epson printers, for example.

Why MP600? Well.. I think that currently it is the most balanced model for home market. 4 color ink tanks and 1 additional black ink tank for text printing do the job for most cases (I do comparison with 7 or even 8 ink tank models), and other than that, feature set is very comparable with 810 or 960, and the price is 1.5 cheaper than MP810 and 2x cheaper comparing to 960.

Here are some pics of the new printer :)

Printing speed comparison (Pixus MP600 vs 475PD)

In order to compare printing speed of MP600 and 475PD, I chose to print 2 types of documents - color business-type of document (actually, Rails Cheatsheet :), and an ordinary text in form of 2 pages from CS3 JavaScript manual. I took the process on video and then arranged the two videos into one, so one can actually feel the difference.

Note: both videos are in mpeg4 format. You can view them if you have QuickTime 7, or any other player which supports playback of mpeg4 encoded video.

So, here's the first video - printing color business-type of document. Please note that Pixus MP600 was set to print 2 pages, using automatic duplexing, and Pixus 475PD was set to print only the first page of the document.

Another video shows printing out 2 pages of black text from CS3 Javascript manual.
